Web Development for the iPod Touch/iPhone
I’ve received several inquiries from customers about the capability of managing web assets through mobile devices (everything from the Blackberry platform to the iPod Touch/iPhone). One of the barriers to entry for me always came down to the Apple SDK. I’m not one to go out on a whim and join Apple’s program and learn an entirely new platform–but what if we could utilize the standard Safari browser that lives inside the aforementioned Apple devices?
I came across this blog post which overviews some methods for building Apple platform specific websites complete with the ability to vary content relative to the orientation of the device. Of course much like traditional web platforms, you can specify an icon using the “apple-touch-icon” tag so that when your user adds the website to the home screen it appears with its own icon much like an app.
Obviously this has infinite possibilities–perhaps that iPhone “app” for our Client-Manageable Solution platform isn’t that far away after all!
