Top Brands; Time for Vacation

by michael greene on October 3rd, 2009

I’m off to the airport here in a couple hours; time for some good relaxing vacation. We had a bit of an issue this morning when the UK grounded all transatlantic flights to the US and Canada due to an air traffic control equipment failure, but things seem to be running smooth now and eastbound flights seem to not be affected.

I was just reading through Interbrand’s ranking of the best global brands of 2009, and thought I’d share. You can get the full list of the 100 on the Interbrand website. In addition, Logo Designer Blog has put together some interesting “what can we learn from these brands” tips. As an example, 74% of the top 100 logos are single color, 74% use letters over symbols, 66% are rectangular, and 40% are predominantly blue (summarized from Logo Designer Blog). I found it interesting to see Dell back in the 35th spot while IBM and MS were 3rd and 4th respectively, and also the big gap between Audi (back in 65th) and Mercedes-Benz and BMW, 12th and 15th respectively.

If you’re looking for an interesting read, also check out the 5 recent rebrands which caused the most upset–which includes the hideous London 2012 Olympic campaign logo, Pepsi’s contradicting new logo, and the god-awful Animal Planet logo.
